OBITUARY

REV. LAL RINMAWIA
(1938 – 2026)

It is with profound sadness that the All India Sunday School Association (AISSA) and the wider ecumenical community in India announce the passing of Rev. Lal Rinmawia, a visionary leader and devoted servant of God, who went to be with the Lord and entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2026.

As we experience both sorrow for our loss and gratitude for a life well lived, we humbly request prayers for peace and comfort for Pi Zopari, his beloved wife, and family, while honouring his devoted service to the Lord.

Formerly serving as Programme Secretary of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), he stood as a pillar of Christian leadership and a trailblazer in religious education. As Organising Secretary, he played a pivotal role in the 1981–82 All India Sunday School and Christian Education Conference in Secunderabad, which led to the founding of AISSA and affirmed the central role of Christian child nurture in the Church’s mission. Moreover, he is recognized as the one who formally bestowed the name AISSA upon the organization.

He is survived by a vast community of colleagues and friends who continue to be inspired by his life of faith. While we mourn this irreplaceable loss, we rejoice in the assurance that he now rests in the eternal peace of Christ, whom he served so faithfully.

Though gone from our sight, he remains in our hearts and in the embrace of God.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord… they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.” (Revelation 14:13)
