Ecumenical Sunday School Teachers Retreat- 2024, Chennai

We are pleased to announce the successful launch of AISSA’s first program for the Chennai chapter, held today at Bishop Manickam Memorial Hall in Kilpauk. The event, titled “ECUMENICAL SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS RETREAT – 2024,” drew participation of 40 members from various denominations.
The program commenced with registration and opening prayer offered by Rev. Joseph Dasan, Director, Department of Christian Education, followed by a devotional session led by Rev. Samson Gnanaraj, Area Chairman, TELC. Rev. Dr. Aaron Martin, a Governing Body Member of AISSA, delivered an introductory speech outlining the objectives of the Chennai chapter and officially welcomed the distinguished guests included Rev. Christopher Dharmaraj from EMS, Mr. Ramesh from Children Ministry Chennai, and Rev. C. Samuel Jebakumar, Secretary of AISSA Chennai Chapter.
The core focus of today’s training was to equip Sunday school teachers with effective teaching strategies and resources to enhance both classroom engagement and spiritual guidance skills. The sessions were designed to empower Christian educators with practical tools and knowledge aimed at nurturing the spiritual growth of Sunday school children.
Rev. Christopher Dharmaraj led Session I on “Present Day Children: Changes and Challenges,” highlighting the evolving landscape that educators face today. Session II, facilitated by Mr. Ramesh, explored “Creative & Effective Teaching Techniques for Children,” offering valuable insights into innovative pedagogical methods.
During Session III, participants engaged in group discussions, actively sharing innovative solutions to common teaching dilemmas. The exchanges were characterized by creativity and practicality, resonating well with all attendees.
The sessions featured engaging presentations with ample opportunities for questions and discussions, enriched by real-life examples that made the training both enlightening and enjoyable for Sunday school teachers. Feedback from participants underscored the practical relevance of the sessions, with many expressing newfound confidence in applying the strategies they learned.
The program concluded with announcements of future events and a closing prayer and blessings. Rev. C. Samuel Jebakumar and Rev. Dr. Aaron Martin were commended for their meticulous planning and organizational efforts, ensuring the program’s success.
In summary, AISSA’s inaugural program for the Chennai chapter provided valuable training and networking opportunities for Sunday school teachers, reinforcing their pivotal role in fostering the spiritual development of children.

Formation meeting of the Chennai Sunday School Association (AISSA Chennai Chapter).

The All India Sunday School Association (AISSA) and the Church of South India, Department of Christian Education organized a significant gathering on June 21, 2024, at the CSI Synod Centre. This event marks the formation meeting of the Chennai Sunday School Association (AISSA Chennai Chapter).

AISSA, a related agency of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), is dedicated to working with children and Christian Educators in churches. This gathering brought together children, leaders, teachers, superintendents, and directors of Sunday schools from several denominations, representing a diverse and unified community.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to the General Secretary of AISSA, Rev. Dr. T. I. James, Rev. T. Joseph Dasan, the Director of Christian Education in CSI Synod, Dr. V. Esther Kathiroli from TNCC, Rev Dr T Aron Martin, Sunday School Children – Sreshta Nischal, Ranit Sumiko, Kathriel Deanna, the governing council members of AISSA and delegates from Salvation Army, Arcot Lutheran Church, Evangelical Church of India, Andra Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chaldean Syrian Church, Holy Trinity Malayalam Congratulation, CSI Diocese of Madras Diocese, Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jacobite Church, Malankara Orthodox Church, Marthoma Syrian Church, participated. We express our gratitude to different denominations for their support and participation.
The executive committee of Chennai Sunday Association was formed as Rev Samuel Jabakumar as the Secretary and Maj Ch William Booth as the Treasurer. The executive committee met soon after the meeting.
